How Wayfinders Was Born

My younger siblings stopped me from ending my life.

 I had been in a dark place for a long time, caused by trauma and struggles in my adolescence.

It was Christmas, I was 16 – it had been years since I first had suicidal thoughts, but this was the closest I had ever been. But I’d close my eyes, and I’d remember my siblings. I’d see their faces.

No matter how much I wanted to give up – I couldn’t hurt them like that. I couldn’t do that to my family.

I realized I had no choice but to live… I decided I was going to have to find a way to be happy.

To love myself. To be whole. To write a different story.

I started saving money pushing carts at the grocery store after school and on the weekends.

The day I graduated, I bought a one way ticket to India. September 5th came, and my childhood ended as I stepped through the sliding doors of the airport, alone.

I tell you this story because it was when I started to take my own path instead of the one that was laid out for me by society.

Being a purpose-driven business owner means taking the path less traveled. It means you care about the lives you touch, the footprints you leave behind, and the values you choose to live by.

Being a purpose-driven business owner means that “profit” actually has meaning. Because profit represents sustainably taking take of your family and your community. Profit means power in the hands of people who will take better care of the planet we call Home

The growth of your business is like the view on the mountain top; evidence that you took that leap of faith again and again, remembering that your life is bigger than you, and answering the call to step into who you are becoming.

This is a part of my story, but the world needs a lot more than my story – it needs yours. Your story has the power to reach people in a way unlike anyone else’s.
